The ECOM Group of Companies
From its roots in Barcelona, Spain in the 1840’s, Ecom has grown into a global group of companies with primary focus on commodity marketing. The initial expansion of the Ecom Group was from Spain to New York in the late 1880’s. The New York operation was relocated to Dallas, Texas and additional offices and operations were established in South America in the 1930’s and in Mexico in the 1940’s. The Ecom Group continues to be family owned and is now in it’s sixth generation of family ownership. The Group is run and managed by a combination of family members and other highly skilled professionals.
Today, the Ecom Group has established principal offices in Dallas, Texas; Pully, Switzerland; Mexico City, Mexico and San Paulo, Brazil with the most recent addition being Australia. In addition to these principal offices, the Ecom Group has regional offices in various locations world wide, including Indonesia, Beijing, Uzbekistan and other international markets.
The Ecom Group started one and a half centuries ago, as a supplier of wooden barrel staves and raw cotton to manufacturers in Spain. Currently, it markets three main commodities - cotton, coffee and cocoa. These, in conjunction with commercial real-estate holdings, other corporate investment holdings and banking, make up the Ecom Group of Companies.
The Ecom Group is a strong believer in vertical integration and value-added services to the client. Evidence of this policy is the ownership and operation of cotton gins, warehouses, seed crushing plants, coffee roasting plants, farming enterprises and other processing operations world wide, which work in conjunction with the groups commodity marketing divisions.
The Ecom Group has achieved solid growth in all cores of it’s commodity marketing businesses, with coffee and cocoa ranking in the top five worldwide and cotton in the top ten. The Ecom Group is focussed on development and strives to maintain superior service for it’s clients internationally and to provide all clients a platform to market their goods, while accessing the best possible market intelligence. The Ecom Group has no head office. Instead it has a series of principal offices in several locations. This structure allows the company to achieve a local presence while remaining globally positioned.
The Ecom Group is very agribusiness focussed with investments ranging from crop and livestock production through to semi-processed agricultural goods. In order to compliment this vertical integration, the Ecom Group has developed strategic alliances with some of the largest raw material consumers in the world. These consumers require specific needs according to their business and appetite for risk. The Ecom Group provides tailor-made packages, encompassing everything from price management, to delivery scheduling, to once a month invoicing, in order to make the clients business more efficient.
